TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Texas state uneven bars champion Macy Orosco will join The University of Alabama gymnastics team for the 2020 season head coach Dana Duckworth announced Tuesday.
"Macy caught our eye because of her lines, look and skill on the uneven bars," Duckworth said. "Through the recruiting process we got to know her personally and felt a connection to our culture and staff and believe in the positive impact her spirit, passion and faith will have on our program and her teammates. We look forward to her joining the team in the fall and working together to maximize her collegiate gymnastics career."
The 2018 Alamo Classic uneven bars champion, Orosco is coached by April Pyle, Chris Brashier and Beatrice Mihaila-Crivineanu at Empire Gymnastics. A native of Arlington, Texas, she is a three-year regional qualifier.
"I have always loved Alabama since I was young," Orosco said. "When I stepped foot on the beautiful campus and met the coaches, I knew Alabama was where I wanted to be. The dynamic of the team that the coaches have built and the legacy that they continue to carry on is truly something special. God has blessed me so much with the opportunity to come to The University of Alabama."
An honor-roll student at Martin High School, she is the daughter of Mary and Eric Orosco.
While the Tide's latest addition to its gymnastics family gets her start with the 2020 season, this year's squad gets things underway on January 4 in Coleman Coliseum. Season tickets are available through the Alabama Ticket Office (205.348.2262) located in the lobby of Coleman Coliseum or online at RollTide.com.
